Falls at Home Team

Rapid, practical support following a fall- helping people recover safely at home.

Our Falls at Home Team

Falls in the home are a serious risk, particularly for older people. A fall can cause pain, distress, and a loss of confidence, and in many cases may lead to reduced independence or unnecessary hospital admission.

The Falls at Home Team at Unity Care provides timely, non-clinical support for individuals who have experienced a fall at home or are at immediate risk following a fall. Our service focuses on safe assistance, reassurance, and monitoring, helping people settle back at home following a non-injury fall.

The risks of falls at home

Falls are one of the most common reasons for emergency calls involving older adults. Many falls do not result in injury but still require assistance, as carers or care home staff may be unable to help due to no-lift policies.

When 999 is called for a non-injury fall, the call is often triaged as low priority, meaning individuals may wait several hours for an ambulance. Remaining on the floor for long periods can increase the risk of complications, including discomfort, tissue damage, and further health concerns.

Our Falls at Home service offers an alternative response, providing timely assistance and helping to reduce unnecessary pressure on NHS Ambulance Services.

What is the Falls at Home Team?

The Falls at Home Team provides practical, hands-on support following a fall. The service is designed to assist individuals off the floor safely, offer reassurance, and monitor wellbeing in the immediate period after a fall.

This service does not replace emergency medical care, but instead supports people following non-injury falls where hospital attendance may not be required.
